BEBE STOCKWELL

Bebe Stockwell, Johnny Brenda’s, Philadelphia, PA 10/1/2026

Finally getting the chance to see Bebe Stockwell live was an exciting experience, especially at a legendary Philadelphia venue like Johnny Brenda’s in Fishtown. With its intimate atmosphere and packed crowd, the venue was the perfect setting for a night that felt both energetic and personal.

Opening the show was Gabrielle Hope, an Appalachian folk musician with a remarkably distinct and captivating voice. Her set immediately established a warm, intimate tone for the evening. One of the highlights was her cover of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill,” which felt like a perfect match for her unique vocal style. The crowd responded enthusiastically, and by the time her set ended, the room was more than ready for the main event.

With the venue completely filled, Bebe Stockwell took the stage with her band to a huge roar from the crowd. She opened the night with “Minor Inconveniences,” a standout from her Driving Backwards album. Almost immediately, it was clear how familiar the audience was with her music. Looking around the room, you could see people singing along, dancing, and completely immersed in the performance.

Stockwell’s set did a great job of balancing fan favorites with newer material. She played her new song “Going to the Country,” which fit naturally into the set before transitioning into an incredible cover of John Denver’s “Country Roads.” Hearing the entire venue join in on such a familiar song made it one of the most memorable moments of the night.

Of course, the crowd erupted when Stockwell launched into her all-time hit “Want Me.” The song was just as incredible live as it is on record, with the energy from the audience adding another layer to the performance.

Another unexpected highlight was her cover of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ “Home.” It was a fun surprise in the set and showed another side of Stockwell’s musical influences while giving the audience another opportunity to sing along.

The night ultimately came to a close with “When You Know,” another new song that proved to be the perfect closer.

Overall, Bebe Stockwell’s performance at Johnny Brenda’s was a fantastic night of music, combining the excitement of a packed Philadelphia crowd with the intimacy of one of the city’s best small venues. Between the infectious energy of the band, Stockwell’s connection with the audience, the unexpected covers, and the introduction of new songs, it was a performance that made it easy to understand why so many people had packed into Fishtown to see her. It was well worth the wait to finally see Bebe Stockwell live.
