INDIGO DE SOUZA
Indigo De Souza, Union Transfer, Philadelphia, PA 10/22/2025
It had been years since I last saw Indigo De Souza, so when I saw she was coming to Union Transfer, I knew I had to be there. Despite a last-minute lineup change, one of her band member’s fathers was ill, Indigo’s band didn’t miss a beat. A new musician filled in for the night, reportedly learning the entire set in just eleven hours, which made the performance all the more impressive.
The show opened with “Be My Love,” a new track from Precipice, immediately setting the tone for an intimate and heartfelt night. Before playing “Smog,” Indigo shared a bit of its backstory, explaining that she wrote it during the COVID lockdowns and had a lot of fun creating it.
At one point, the new band member shouted “Go Birds!”; a nod to the Philadelphia Eagles, which instantly set off a wave of Eagles chants from the crowd. When the noise died down, Indigo laughed and asked, “What sport do the Birds play?” She then mused about how no one ever plays croquet anymore and talked about the games they play on the road, like Catch Phrase and room escape challenges, giving the audience a glimpse into her band’s camaraderie.
Later in the set, Indigo invited the opener, Mothe, back onstage to join her for a few songs, including a gorgeous duet of “Serious.” The main set closed with the album’s title track, “Precipice,” before Indigo returned solo for an encore. She performed “The Moon Is No Good” alone onstage, a quiet and stunning finale that felt like the perfect send-off to an incredible night.
