LORNA SHORE
Lorna Shore, Greensboro Complex, Greensboro, NC 9/23/25.
Tour: ‘I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me’
It was just like any other night in (most of) Greensboro, North Carolina. Anywhere but the Special Events Center of the Greensboro Coliseum that is. I walked in, not entirely sure what to expect, as this was my first deathcore show. I’d always heard deathcore described as chaotic and brutal, but I quickly learned that those words barely scratch the surface. The moment Lorna Shore took the stage, the modest venue was transformed into something underworldly.
The quintet — Will Ramos (vocals), Adam De Micco (guitar), Andrew O’Connor (guitar), Michael Yager (bass), and Austin Archey (drums) — has carved out a significant place in the metal scene since their inception in 2010. While the band’s lineup has evolved over the years, solidifying with the addition of Ramos in 2021, their impact on the scene has not wavered.
The young reigning prince of deathcore, Will Ramos, wasted no time in showing us how he earned his throne. His demonic growls tore through the crowd, with fans hanging on every word. As someone newer to deathcore, I was completely in awe, not just by the power behind his vocals, but by his stage presence. Ramos is a literal force of nature, and doesn’t just command attention — he demands it.
The setlist was a cinematic journey through Lorna Shore’s discography of dark themes, crushing breakdowns, and symphonic elements. Beneath the chaos, the high level of musicianship was undeniable. The guitars, bass lines, and relentless blast beats all came together to create a fury that was as brutal as it was meticulous. This was anything but “noise” — this was pure art.
The crowd’s energy was as passionate as it was infectious. From the photo pit, it was like watching an assembly line as crowd-surfer after crowd-surfer came to the front, clearly having the time of their lives. Deathcore, I realized, is as much about community and shared intensity as it is about the music. By the end of the night, I understood why Lorna Shore is regarded so highly. This wasn’t just a concert, this was pure obliteration, and I loved every minute of it.
As fans slowly shuffled out of the venue, I was almost shocked that the walls were still standing. Lorna Shore had made the ground quake beneath us, feeling at times like the chaos would consume us all. I survived, but somehow I was changed. I had been bathed in the flames of hellfire, and I was reborn.
