Concert Review: The Lumineers Light Up Citizen’s Bank Park

The Lumineers brought their biggest Philadelphia show to date to Citizen’s Bank Park, and the night was nothing short of magical. Playing to a packed stadium, the band delivered a heartfelt, high-energy performance that left the crowd buzzing long after the final note.

Opening the night was rising star Chance Peña, a powerful artist in his own right who has previously played major venues in Philly. Peña impressed early with a duet called “Peacemaker,” showcasing his incredible vocal range. A special treat for the Philly crowd came when he debuted a new song titled “Juno, You Know,” which was met with enthusiastic applause.

Next up was hometown favorite Dr. Dog, who kicked things off with their beloved track “Shadow People,” instantly getting the crowd moving. The energy stayed high as they played “Nellie,” a catchy fan favorite that had the entire stadium singing along. When the unmistakable opening chords of “Where’d All The Time Go” rang out, a song that has found new life on Instagram Reels, the sea of phones lit up the night sky. Dr. Dog closed their set with “Lonesome,” a standout from their Be the Void album.

As anticipation built for the headliner, every person in the stadium rose to their feet. The Lumineers took the stage to “Same Old Song,” a newer release that’s quickly become a crowd favorite. They kept the momentum going with “Flowers in Your Hair,” as thousands of voices joined in harmony during the chorus.

The band followed up with the soaring “Angela,” keeping fans on their feet and dancing. A standout moment came when they invited Chance Peña back on stage for a moving rendition of “Gale Song,” a perfect showcase for both Peña’s and frontman Wesley Schultz’s stunning vocals.

Of course, no Lumineers concert would be complete without “Ho Hey,” and when the band launched into their signature hit, the crowd sang so loudly it must have echoed far beyond the stadium walls.

One of the evening’s more tender moments came with “Dead Sea,” a beautiful love song Schultz wrote for his wife. A few songs later, he surprised the Philly audience with a touching cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Streets of Philadelphia,”which earned a massive ovation. Keeping the local love going, the band brought out none other than the Phillie Phanatic, who danced across the stage to the delight of the crowd.

Another unforgettable highlight was a collaborative cover of Talking Heads’ “This Must Be the Place,” featuring both openers and Philly legends sharing the stage for a joyous, communal moment.

The Lumineers closed the night with a powerful one-two punch of “Cleopatra” and “Stubborn Love,” sending fans home on a high note after a truly memorable night in the City of Brotherly Love.
