GOVERNORS BALL MUSIC FESTIVAL

Governors Ball Music Festival, Flushing, NY. 6/5/26-6/7/26.

Governors Ball 2026 Recap: Rain, Heat, and a Whole Lot of Fun

If there is one thing Governors Ball 2026 proved, it's that New York music fans are built differently. Temperatures climbed well into the 90s, freak storms rolled through the city, and artists and fans were forced to adapt. But none of it seemed to matter. Crowds moshed through the heat, sprinted between stages to catch last-minute schedule changes, and brought enough enthusiasm to turn a tough weekend into one of the year's most memorable festivals so far.

Friday: Dreamy Pop, Emo Nostalgia, and, of course, Lorde

King Princess kicked off the weekend with her signature dreamy vocals and sapphic anthems. One of the standout moments came during her playful back-and-forth with the ASL interpreter, joking that she was loving the lesbian music – Happy Pride!

Over on the Snapchat Stage, The Dare battled through technical difficulties without missing a beat. Dressed in a full suit despite temperatures in the 90s, he somehow managed to keep the energy high while delivering his infectious indie dance tracks. Bless his heart.

Pierce the Veil brought a heavy dose of nostalgia, transporting fans straight back to their emo high school years. Two decades into their career, the band still delivers the kind of explosive energy and on-stage movement that turns every song into a scream-along.

KATSEYE once again proved why they're one of the most exciting groups doing it right now. Their choreography was insane, their stage presence was magnetic, and fans of all ages danced and sang along throughout the set.

Closing out the night, Lorde delivered a headlining performance worthy of the anticipation. Between her powerful vocals, stunning nostalgia-inducing production, and unique lighting design, the set felt like the cherry on top of a very long day. Fans could be spotted wiping away tears during their favorite songs. I dare you to try making it through Liability without getting emotional. You can’t.

Saturday: Moshing in 90 Degrees and Racing Against the Weather

Despite an early set time, 2hollis drew one of the day's biggest turnouts. Fans were literally running from the train station to catch his performance. With black-painted eyes, leather pants, no shirt, and very little protection from the blazing midday sun, all I could think was: I really hope this man remembered sunscreen.

Jane Remover turned The Grove into absolute chaos, filling the stage area with mosh pits despite the relentless heat. Opening up pits in 90-degree weather is no joke, but the crowd persevered for the love of the game.

Wet Leg managed to sneak their set onto the main stage before the severe weather arrived. Frontwoman Rhian Teasdale got emotional while reflecting on how New York was the first American city the band ever toured in, creating one of the weekend's more sweet, heartfelt moments.

Then came Major Lazer, whose bass was so intense it had me questioning both the strength of my heart and the structural integrity of my eyeballs. I’m talking about the type of bass that makes you cough from your throat vibrating. Ear protection was necessary, and I can only pray for those around me who went without it. The dancers were pulling off moves that earned audible gasps from the crowd and there were splits that made me physically cringe in sympathy, but I also couldn't look away. Between the bass and the fast-paced choreo, it was one of the most chaotic and entertaining performances of the weekend.

Unfortunately, severe weather eventually forced organizers to cancel portions of the day's schedule. Set times were adjusted, sending Stray Kids fans (STAYs) sprinting across the festival grounds to make the earlier performance time. The group rewarded the effort with incredible choreography, polished performances, and enough energy to make everyone briefly forget the incoming weather situation.

Sunday: A Strong Finish After the Storm

Following Saturday's weather disruptions, Sunday's schedule was adjusted to accommodate some affected artists, and the final day started strong.

Slayyyter opened things up with an impressively energetic set. For a 1:45 p.m. slot, the crowd felt massive, setting the tone for the day ahead.

Japanese Breakfast delivered one of the weekend's most beautiful performances. Michelle Zauner's vocals were stunning as always, but the set carried some additional emotional weight as she publicly revealed her pregnancy. Watching her perform with her baby belly on full display felt incredibly powerful.

Sibling duo BETWEEN FRIENDS kept the momentum going at The Grove with their experimental pop sound and high-energy performance that had the crowd dancing throughout.

Geese arrived fresh off a Saturday appearance at Primavera Sound in Spain, thankfully without having to deal with another rain-soaked set. By the time they launched into their closing song, "Trinidad," fans were sprinting over from neighboring stages to join the growing mosh pit.

Dominic Fike remained one of the festival's biggest crowd favorites, running through fan-favorites while also debuting a new track called "AI." In true Dominic Fike fashion, he also encouraged fans to find him after the show and try to knock him out. What a guy.

Jennie transformed the Snapchat Stage into a pop masterclass with full choreography, charisma, and star power to her headlining set. The crowd erupted as she performed not one, not two, but three unreleased songs.

As expected, A$AP Rocky closed the weekend with an unforgettable performance. With Rihanna watching from the crowd, he delivered a chaotic, entertaining set as dancers scrambled across the stage and the energy never dipped for a second.

Final Thoughts

The rain and heat couldn't stop it. If anything, the harsh conditions only seemed to strengthen the vibes of the crowd. Between the unforgettable performances and thousands of fans determined to make the most of their time, Gov Ball 2026 felt like a celebration of live music at its best.

I'm already counting down the days until next year!
